Communication Pathway
Room 1.19
Connecting Literacy and AAC: Collaboration in Action
Length of presentation is 30 mins (11:35 - 12:05pm)
In this session, Jake will explore how Mind Express 5 is evolving to support not only communication but meaningful literacy development.
Through live demonstrations, delegates will see how two-switch accessible activities, dynamic literacy environments and fully integrated accessible books create opportunities for emergent readers to explore, write, listen and engage independently. From child-directed launchers to co-planned writing and phonemic exploration, Mind Express 5 enables flexible, inclusive pathways into literacy without relying on timing-based access.
The session will also highlight how collaboration with organisations such as CandLE and literacy and switch-access specialist Linda Burkhart has influenced ongoing development — strengthening features, improving classroom implementation, and expanding possibilities for accessible learning.
Join us to explore how communication and literacy can be connected in practical, empowering ways — and how accessible futures are built through responsive technology.
